Is it possible to manifest bad things, and why do bad things happen in the first place? What I’m sharing has the potential to be life changing for you if you can grasp this.
A lot of people don’t believe in the power of manifestation and the law of attraction because they have been told that they have manifested all the bad things that have ever happened to them.
I can understand that when people are told that it’s their fault that they manifested bad things into their lives that they are going to become defensive. I feel the same way too when I hear that, and I don’t really agree with that line of thinking.
Today I’m going to explain why I believe bad things happen to us and what it actually means.
Today You Will Discover
- What bad things actually are
- Whether or not you can manifest bad things
- How manifestation actually works and whether or not it’s dangerous
- Why bad things happen and how to use bad things for good

What Are Bad Things?
Before we talk about whether or not you can manifest bad things, let’s actually define what a bad thing is.
The words “good” and “bad” are simply just opinions. That means something in particular may be seen as bad by one person or good by someone else.
So when we are talking about bad things, we are just talking about things that you’ve given a label to as bad.
I really don’t like the terms good and bad and rarely use them myself.
I learned when I was a foster carer and a teacher that children should never be labeled as good or bad because it forms part of their identity and either identity will not serve them in the future.
It stands to reason that if you tell a child that they are bad all day long that they will believe it and start to act accordingly which is obviously not good for anyone.
But a lot of people think that if they tell a child that they are a good boy or a good girl all day that they are building up the child’s self-esteem and the child will see themselves as good which can only be a good thing?
Unfortunately it doesn’t work like that. When a child sees themselves as good, if they do anything that they or someone else considers to be bad, they are suddenly confused about who they are. They have so much pressure on them to be good that they are not allowed to ever express negative emotions or do anything that other people don’t like, so they can become a people pleaser.
Although we have never used the words good and bad to describe our own children, their teachers and other people have sometimes described them as good and they start using the term at home. Then they start calling other boys and girls bad.
We have to explain to them that everyone has parts of their personalities that people like and help them do well in life, and everyone also has parts of their personalities that other people don’t like and often gets them in trouble. But we are all totally balanced.
We can’t label somebody as completely bad or completely good. We can talk about behaviour and say that somebody wasn’t following the teachers rules. We can’t even say that their behaviour was bad because all teachers have different rules and what might be bad to one teacher would be good behaviour to another teacher.
Our own personalities and life itself is made up of things that some people like and things that other people don’t like. It’s all just a matter of opinion.
To explain this a bit more, I want to share a Chinese parable with you that really brings me back down to earth every time I hear it.
It goes like this:
“A farmer and his son had a beloved horse who helped the family earn a living. One day, the horse ran away and their neighbours exclaimed, “Your horse ran away, what terrible luck!” The farmer replied, “Maybe so, maybe not.”
A few days later, the horse returned home, leading a few wild horses back to the farm as well. The neighbours shouted out, “Your horse has returned, and brought several horses home with him. What great luck!” The farmer replied, “Maybe so, maybe not.”
Later that week, the farmer’s son was trying to break one of the horses and she threw him to the ground, breaking his leg. The neighbours cried, “Your son broke his leg, what terrible luck!” The farmer replied, “Maybe so, maybe not.”
A few weeks later, soldiers from the national army marched through town, recruiting all boys for the army. They did not take the farmer’s son, because he had a broken leg. The neighbours shouted, “Your boy is spared, what tremendous luck!” To which the farmer replied, “Maybe so, maybe not. We’ll see.”
So you can see that circumstances that some people label as good can end up being seen as bad in the future, and other circumstances that some people label as bad can end up being seen as a good thing in the future.
It’s all just a matter of perspective on how you see the world.
If you get rid of the words good and bad from your vocabulary and just see things as things you’ll relieve a lot of your own suffering.
Can You Manifest Bad Things As Well As Good Things?
If you are familiar with the law of attraction, the principle is that you attract whatever you believe, so if you believe you are going to get good things, you attract good things, and if you believe that you will attract bad things you will attract bad things into your life.
I do agree with this to a certain extent but I don’t think that life is as black and white as that.
I do agree that generally in life those types of people who have a more positive outlook on life tend to get more of the good stuff in their lives.
And those people who are always moaning and complaining and blaming other people for everything tend to get more things to moan about.
I think most people would agree with me on that, and that’s really all that the law of attraction is about. It has been described in the same way in all of the major religions so this is nothing new that people aren’t aware of.
However, fans of the law of attraction take this one step further and start to blame people for all of the terrible things that have happened to them in their lives. They say that they must have attracted them with their negative thoughts.
I don’t believe in this in most circumstances and here’s why.
For the first 7 years of our lives, we are in a theta brain wave state. In this state, we are very susceptible to what other people are telling us. Basically we believe everything we hear and our experiences form our belief systems. Whatever happens to us defines who we are as a person and how we live our lives. Reality and fiction are merged together during this age so children are not aware of what is real and what’s not real at this time.
I believe that the traumatic things that have happened to us as children are definitely not our fault and are not manifested by us. Children are not really able to shape their own belief systems at such a young age so they couldn’t possibly manifest bad things into their reality.
I also believe that traumatic things that happen to us as adults are not manifested by us.
Yes we can make silly mistakes and cause harm to ourselves, but how many times have you made a silly mistake and not caused harm to yourself?
When I was a teenager I did many very silly and dangerous things and got away with almost all of them, meaning that I didn’t cause myself or anybody else any injuries or harm even though I took a large number of big risks that could have resulted in serious harm being caused to me.
However, as an adult I had an accident with my juicer and did myself a very serious finger injury. This injury had major repercussions in my life and it was very traumatic for me. The timing was also the absolute worst as I was heavily pregnant and in the middle of a house move to a new area. Did I manifest that? I really don’t think I did. I don’t blame myself at all for the accident even though I did take silly actions that caused my accident.
I actually don’t think that we control most of the events that happen in our lives. I don’t think we are as powerful as that. I do believe that we can influence them though with our belief systems.
I do think that we have power, but it does have a limit on it. We can’t control absolutely everything that happens to us all of the time. If we could, life would be so boring.
How Manifestation Actually Works
So if we don’t control most of the external events in our lives, what is the point of manifestation? What does it actually do?
We all have a unique purpose here on earth, and we have a set of preferences and things that really excite us and matter to us more than anything else. These are our Core Priorities.
My Core Priorities are fun with family, creation, wealth, natural beauty, and holistic health.
Or to put it more into context I feel extremely fulfilled in my life if I spend most of my time creating resources to help entrepreneurs create wealth, while creating wealth myself, keeping my body healthy by eating healthy food, doing exercise, and keeping my mind healthy with mindset and manifestation routines, spending time in nature on my own and with my family. My life feels perfectly balanced if I do these things that are a priority in my life.
My purpose in life is to give by helping others, and to receive by doing things that I enjoy and having the freedom and resources to be able to do the things that I enjoy.
If I believe in my purpose and by focusing on making it a priority I therefore manifest the exact life I want.
If I don’t believe in my purpose and start to think that I don’t have time for the things that I love, then I don’t manifest the life I want.
As my highest goal and purpose in life is to live my life according to my Core Priorities, as long as I am living my purpose other circumstances and events that occur in life don’t really matter all that much most of the time.
I can manifest my dream life by making the main thing the main thing.
I don’t believe in manifesting anything else other than what’s part of your purpose.
Most of us don’t mind how we live our purpose. The pathway we take to get there isn’t all that important, it just matters that we are doing it somehow.
People get so caught up in manifesting things that really don’t matter at all and then saying that manifestation doesn’t work. If it’s not part of your purpose, you probably won’t be able to manifest it.
We can’t manifest things that are not part of our purpose and that’s because our belief systems are not strong enough. We simply don’t want them enough.
Most people get so fixated on manifesting things before they have realised what their purpose in life is. If you don’t know what your purpose is yet, you’ll not be focused on manifesting the right things.
For example, some people are desperate to manifest a partner, settle down and get married. And they’ve tried everything under the sun to make that happen. They’ve used every dating app, gone on hundreds of dates and also tried every manifestation technique in the book but they still haven’t found their ideal partner. They think they are stuck and they are going through a hard time and they don’t know why this is happening to them.
But they’ve never sat down and really looked at what their Core Priorities are in life. When they do that they realise that one of their highest priorities is actually to travel the world and go where they want to go when they want to do it. They then realise that settling down in their home time and getting married isn’t going to fulfil that. As soon as they start making the main thing the main thing, they meet someone on their travels who loves to travel the world too.
They realise that if they had found their dream partner in their home town they never would have got to travel the world because the person they would have met would not have been travelling and it would have been very hard for them to leave their current lifestyle and start travelling.
Things happen for our highest good in divine timing, and although you can influence your manifestations if you are living by your Core Priorities, you can’t control the timings of your manifestations, especially if you are trying to force something that isn’t in your highest good right now.
Is Manifestation Dangerous?
A lot of people think that we are so powerful that we could actually manifest something disastrous happening for ourselves or for others.
I do believe that we have a certain amount of power as humans, but I also believe that we can only really act in accordance to what is for our greater good by living according to our purpose which is also what’s for the world’s greater good.
Even if we do something that we regret that really hurts people and act totally out of character, I still believe that however you acted was in your greater good, the other person’s greater good, or the world’s greater good.
From every bad thing, good things can also be found, and I will explain more about this in a minute.
So no, I don’t believe that manifestation is dangerous or out of control because we can’t act outside of what is part of our purpose.
Why Do Bad Things Happen?
We have established that there is no such thing as all good and all bad things, but most of us can agree that there are some things that happen to people in their lives which feel very hard when you are going through them and nobody would ever want to have those things happen in their own lives.
Say for example you have an injury or are attacked. Nobody would ever label that as a good thing. Most people would say it’s a hard thing.
So why do these hard things happen?
The truth is that there will always be things in life that flow easily and delight us, and there will always be things in life that don’t go according to our plan that disappoint us.
If we didn’t have things that we perceive to be negative things in our lives, we wouldn’t know what positive things were. We wouldn’t appreciate the positive things. A lot of positive things come out of negative things too because we feel proud of ourselves from rising above challenges.
In the course of one day, there will always be challenges and everybody would agree that there is no such thing as a life without challenges, even though it appears that some people don’t have any. It’s not true. Everybody has challenges.
But what about the really horrible things that happen in life that bring us to our knees? Why do we need those?
These big difficult events are very challenging to us, and when we are severely challenged it can actually cause us to have some positive reactions in the future.
Another question people might ask is why do bad things keep on happening over and over again to us?
For example, a business owner may keep attracting customers who take their services and refuse to pay them. Why does this happen? I believe that this is part of your higher self trying to help you shift your belief system and improve your self-worth.
When you keep attracting people who treat you badly, it’s often holding a mirror up to how you treat and value yourself. As soon as you start to value yourself more, you’ll notice you’ll attract clients who value you more.
Repeated “hard” things are a message and we can be grateful for them because they are a strong sign sent to us showing us where we need to grow in order to live out our purpose in life.
How To Grateful For “Bad” Things
At the first glance you might question how you could be possibly grateful for your biggest challenges in life.
But there are actually several reasons why you can be grateful for any negative event in your life.
One of the biggest benefits of negative events is that we grow stronger as a person. Strength is a great trait to have and can help you through many times in your life with greater ease.
Traumatic events can also be seen as a good marker of when times were hard, and if you compare everything else to those difficult times, everything else seems easy in comparison. So it makes other challenges seem smaller and easier to cope with.
Another benefit of hard events is that you can figure out solutions to your problems that can enhance your life in even greater ways. And you can use those solutions to help other people in their lives. You can even create businesses out of them.
I did this myself with one of my own difficult life events. I had Chronic Fatigue Syndrome for 2 years the first time I had it, and it was so bad I had to stop work and could barely even look after myself. I figured out how to recover by changing my diet, and that encouraged me to set up a business helping other people to do the same. That business blessed me in so many ways that I could never have imagined and completely changed my life. I’m so grateful for my business, and all of the millions of people I’ve helped over the years.
So no, I wouldn’t want to ever go through Chronic Fatigue Syndrome again but would I change what I’ve already gone through? Not a chance because it transformed my entire life. I’m now much healthier than I’d ever been as I wasn’t interested in healthy living before that.
Did I manifest my own health problems? No I didn’t. I didn’t have a clue that my diet that I was eating was causing my health problems, so I definitely didn’t manifest that.
Where do these events come from that transform our lives? Why do they happen?
Some people say that we entered into an agreement to be challenged in particular ways in this lifetime before we became a human. I am open to this being the case.
Other people think God or The Universe sends us these challenges to transform our lives and help us to live our purpose.
I never would have lived my purpose if it wasn’t for this difficult time that I went through because I wouldn’t have cared about health and I wouldn’t have been interested in helping people recover their health.
Either way, I don’t mind how these negative events come about, but I know that I didn’t manifest them myself.
Life Is Perfectly Balanced
I totally believe in perfection and my definition of perfection is different to most people’s.
Most people say, I’m only human, I’m very far from perfect.
But I say. I am perfect. I am perfectly balanced and I have my ups and downs, negatives and positives and that’s exactly how it’s meant to be, and therefore I am perfect.
I believe that the way life works is perfect, and even though it feels tough at times, it is supposed to be like that. It is working as perfectly as it should.
It is through the rough parts and the smooth parts that life is perfect. If everything was always smooth, life would not be perfect.
It is designed exactly how it is meant to function, with the hard and the easy, the good and the bad, the flow and the challenge.
I was just reading about some evidence that the world may have tilted itself to balance itself out after a volcano caused a heaviness in the earth, and this tilting of the earth caused the countries to move to other areas of the world.
If the whole world can tilt to balance itself out, then I know that is exactly how we are designed as humans too.
We are designed to have balance in our lives, that means experiencing all of the challenges of life to their fulessest and learning from them, and this is perfection.
How To Deal With Challenges
You are human and part of the human experience is to have challenges, so expect them. They are coming.
I gt challenged at least once every day. I know this because I record my challenges. I never have a single day where everything is easy and light. There is always at least one thing that happens every day that frustrates me, and stops me in my tracks and often causes some negative emotion in me.
So we know that we are guaranteed to get challenges in life and business, so how do we deal with these challenges?
The best way to deal with challenges is to accept them exactly as they are. That means that we recognise the negative things about that challenge, but we also recognise the positive things about that challenge. Then we can ask ourselves what we can learn from this challenge. Is there a learning lesson for us?
When we do this, we rise above the challenge and cope with future challenges much better, and bring positives out of every challenge.
Every day around the dinner table I always ask my kids to tell me the best thing that happened to them that day, and also a challenge that they faced. I then ask them what they can learn from the challenge.
It’s very interesting that a lot of the time, the best thing about my kid’s days is often the exact same thing that they found the most challenging.
That’s really interesting isn’t it?
For example, my son said that the best thing about his day was that he got to learn some Tae Quan Do. He said that it was also very challenging because he kept making mistakes and had to practice a lot to learn one move.
Next time you get a challenge, imagine how good it will feel to rise above this challenge and improve something as a result. This is a way better feeling than everything always coming easily and effortlessly to you.
I generally describe my business as fun and easy because I enjoy the challenges that come with growing a business. It keeps me learning and growing and I enjoy all aspects of that.
Another great thing about having challenges as a business owner is that every challenge that you overcome is an opportunity to help more people in the future. You can pass on your knowledge to others and that gives you the greatest sense of fulfillment.
Another great way to deal with challenges is to look at them with curiosity. Imagine you were playing a computer game and in a virtual world, you had a challenge. How would you eliminate the problem in the virtual world. Start to see your own life like that.
Instead of seeing that the world has ended whenever you get a problem, say to yourself “There is a solution to every problem.” This mantra has saved me from getting upset about challenges so many times.
Now I immediately jump to, how can I fix that as soon as I come across something that stops me in my tracks. I am very rarely phased with challenges anymore.
