Here’s why letting go is not needed to manifest what you want. And here’s what really happens when you get what you want after letting go.
A common misconception that I hear my clients talking about is the need to let go of your desires to be able to manifest them.
I have been recording my manifestation results for years now, so that I could keep track of what’s working and what’s not working. And although some things have actually manifested when I’ve let go of the desires, many more things that I’ve been trying to manifest have manifested when I haven’t let go of my desires.
Letting go of your desires is not required for manifestation and if you don’t believe me, start to record your own manifestations and put it to the test.
What Does Letting Go In Manifestation Actually Mean?
When people talk about this topic they are usually referring to one of two things.
This is why sometimes this topic gets a bit confusing because people are talking about letting go of different things.
When people say “let go in order to manifest”, not everybody is talking about letting go of their desires or the outcome. Some people are talking about letting go of the desperation surrounding your desires.
But I’m going to address both of these topics regardless of what you are actually letting go of.
Does Letting Go Help You To Manifest?
Letting go does not help you to manifest.
It doesn’t matter whether you are letting go of your desires or you’re letting go of the desperation surrounding your desires. Letting go does not activate a manifestation.
It might help you to do the required work to activate the manifestation but letting go does not activate the manifestation in and of itself.
Can You Manifest Without Letting Go Of Your Desire?
Can you manifest without letting go of your desire or without letting go of the desperation surrounding your desire?
It is possible to manifest your desires even if you don’t let go because you have activated your manifestation through using your imagination.
Your imagination is the only thing that activates the manifestation.
When Should You Let Go Of Your Manifestation?
Is there ever a time where you should let go of your desire?
There is only one time where you should let go of your desire completely and that’s in the circumstances that you don’t actually want your desire anymore.
You’ve changed your mind so why wouldn’t you let go of something if you don’t want it anymore.
What Happens When You Let Go Of Your Desires?
If you direct this question to spiritual teachers, some will say that as soon as you let go, that’s when your desire will manifest.
And other spiritual teachers will say things like it might take a long time to manifest your desires, you can only manifest through consistent inspired action and then eventually you’ll get your desires.
Everybody’s got a different story as to what happens when you let go of your desires.
And the reason for this is because people don’t understand what it is that activates the manifestation.
And that it is the imagination.
So what’s actually happening is they are doing a whole series of different things.
They are writing down their desires, they’re doing scripting, they’re using affirmations, they’re then letting go of their desires, they’re getting frustrated, they’re picking them back up again, they’re trying subliminals, they’re trying everything under the sun and then finally their desires manifest.
And then somebody asks them what did you do to manifest this and they have to summarise in their mind. What was it that had the biggest impact?
Most probably this will be the last thing that they will try.
Maybe it was letting go. Maybe they got so frustrated after using all these techniques they let go and then finally their desires manifested.
So that’s why they would attribute their manifestations to letting go. And that’s why other people say things about scripting, “after I scripted it finally happened, my desire finally manifested.”
And still lots of people don’t get their manifestations after letting go. Probably more people don’t get any results after letting go.
This happens all the way through the year if you think about it.
For example, for New year’s resolutions people really want to lose weight, they set a goal for losing weight, they’ve got this desire for losing weight, they’re trying to manifest losing weight and then they take physical action and it may last for a month.
And then in February they’re fed up and they think “I’m just going to give up on that desire, I no longer have motivation to carry out the work needed to lose the weight.”
“Therefore I’m just going to accept that I’m never going to be slim again, I’m never going to be the size that I want to be. So I’m giving up on my manifestation.”
Then after that happens, do these people magically become slim again? No they don’t. They will probably get bigger and bigger.
And that’s because they haven’t activated their imagination. They haven’t realised that it’s not the physical action that manifests, it’s not the letting go that manifests, it’s the use of the imagination that manifests.
So what about those people that do get their manifestations immediately after letting go?
This has happened to me before.
So what happened there?
In this scenario my human self got frustrated but my infinite self created.
My human self literally gave up but my infinite self never gives up and it never gives up on things that it has created.
The infinite self creates through the use of the imagination and it never gives up on those things which have been created. They have to materialise because they’ve already gained that momentum.
My infinite self wins every time.
What Should You Be Letting Go Of For Manifestation?
Is there anything that we should be getting rid of or letting go off to get our manifestations?
Can anything be blocking us from manifesting?
The only thing that’s blocking you from manifesting is a resistance to using your imagination in the first place. seeing as the only thing that is going to activate your manifestation is your imagination.
What is stopping you from using your imagination?
That is the blockage, and that’s the only blockage to you having your desires.
So this is what you need to overcome.
You need to let go of your blockages that are stopping you from using your imagination and putting it in practice.
What Happens When You Let Go Of Your Blockages Using Your Imagination?
When you don’t have these blockages in place you start to believe that it is a possibility for you and then you activate your imagination.
And you experience it in your imagination.
You actually have the thing that you want.
How To Let Go Of Blockages To Using Your Imagination
I have a process called my STAMP It Out Process To Reject Disbelief.
And in this process I go into this in a lot more detail for customers of mine in my STAMP Goals book and other programs. But I’ll give you a brief overview now.
You start by asking yourself what you want.
So say for example you are trying to manifest quitting your job and starting a successful business.
Now you need to answer the question:
Why don’t you believe that this is possible for you?
Write down your answers.
Answers could be things like:
- I don’t have the confidence
- I’m scared
- I’m not going to make any money
- I don’t have the right ideas or I have too many ideas and I don’t know which one to choose
- I don’t have the money to get started
- I don’t have the time to get started
- I don’t have any support
- I don’t have the resources
What is blocking you from believing that it’s a possibility for you to have what you want?
Now look at each of those blockages and answer these questions:
- Is this true for everybody?
- Is it true that you need money to start a business?
- Is it true you need confidence to start a business?
- Are there people out there who have started a business?
There are examples out there of people who were very very busy when they started a business, or started a business when they just had a new baby, and they had all these other responsibilities as well and a full-time job. And you’ll soon find that there is always somebody who has overcome the challenge that you think is impossible to overcome.
Now the next questions you need to answer are:
- Will you allow it to be true for you to overcome these blockages?
- Will you allow it to be true for you that you can have your desire despite the commitment in your life?
- Despite the fact that you currently don’t have any resources, support or money to start a business, will you allow it to be true anyway?
And if the answer is yes then ask yourself:
What do you want to believe instead of that blockage that was holding you back?
You could think “I can start a business at any time anywhere” or “I always have the resources I need to start a business”.
And this is where affirmations come in because they really help us to build that belief in ourselves and really figure out what we want to believe and what we do believe, and also replace those beliefs that are holding us back with beliefs that we want to believe instead.
And from that point when you start to believe that it is actually a possibility for you to have what you want, then you can activate your imagination which is what activates the manifestation.
But going through this process just helps you to remove the blockages that are holding you back from doing the mental work using your imagination.
How To Use Your Imagination To Manifest Your Desires?
I have gone into this in a lot more detail in other articles and I also have a guide to manifesting using Reverse Memories that will walk you through the process in a lot more detail.
But basically creating a reverse memory is creating a memory in your imagination of experiencing the thing that you want to experience before it’s actually happened.
Mistakes To Avoid
Here are some mistakes to avoid when it comes to letting go of your manifestation.
Try not to listen to other people who swear that letting go is the only thing you have to do to activate your imagination.
Just because something happened once for somebody else doesn’t mean it’s going to happen for you.
And similarly when it comes to getting your own evidence as to what works in terms of manifestation, try not to just remember the last thing that you did and think that that is the answer to everything.
It wasn’t the scripting that worked, it wasn’t the letting go that worked, it was the use of your imagination that worked.
Letting go is simply another manifestation technique that a lot of people use and it doesn’t actually work.
Sometimes it can help because it overcomes resistance but if you’ve let go of your desire then you’re not going to be using your imagination to experience having your desire. Because you’ve decided “I don’t want my desire anymore”.
So why would you be imagining that you have your desire if you’ve decided that you no longer want your desire because you’ve let go of it.
It doesn’t make any sense.
You’re not going to get what you want by deciding you don’t want it anymore.
That doesn’t seem logical. It doesn’t make logical sense and that’s why people struggle with this concept of letting go of their desires. Because it really doesn’t make any sense.
You Think You’ve Let Go But The Truth Is…
Sometimes it’s just random timing that we do happen to get our manifestations after we have let go of our desires.
But what’s actually happening here is that the reason why your desire has manifested is because you have previously activated your imagination and imagined that you had what you wanted.
And one day you just got so frustrated that your manifestation wasn’t here that you decided I’m going to let go out of sheer frustration,
“I’m letting go of that thing, I no longer want it. I’ve given up on it”, and you totally give up on it, or so you think.
But what really happens is you’re just fooling yourself because you haven’t gotten rid of the desire most of the time.
The desire is still there.
If you decide “I want to be a millionaire tomorrow” and it just doesn’t happen for you and you get frustrated and say to yourself “I don’t really want that anyway, money’s not important to me, I never really wanted the money, I’m just going to be happy with my own life.”
You think you’ve gotten rid of that desire.
But you haven’t.
it’s still there you still have that desire.
If it’s a burning desire and you’ve had it for a long time. you’re probably not going to get rid of that desire.
It’s there for a reason you’re just fooling yourself that you’ve got rid of your desire.
What you’ve done is you’ve just had a little tantrum and you’ve said you don’t want that thing.
It’s like when we’re in relationships and we push the other person away. We say “Oh I don’t want that person anymore”.
But what you’re really doing is just having a tantrum. You just want somebody to take notice and give you what you want.
And sometimes this happens immediately.
Sometimes you do get what you want immediately after.
But it’s not because you let go of your desire.
If you were in a relationship and you pushed someone away you said “I don’t want them anymore” and then they just came back to you and they started behaving the way you wanted them to behave and you took them back. Then finally you got what you wanted. You got that relationship and it wasn’t because you didn’t want that relationship. What you really mean is “I don’t want the relationship like that”.
And it’s the same with manifestation. We’re really just saying I don’t want to manifest it like this, “this is too stressful, it’s too frustrating, I’ve got all this desperation, all of this negative energy surrounding this manifestation. I just don’t want this scenario. I don’t want this experience of getting my manifestation. So I’m getting rid of all of the negativity surrounding this Experience”.
But you’re not letting go of your desire.
You’re just saying “I just don’t want to do this thing anymore where I’m desperately trying to manifest”. So you just let go of the desperation. and when you let go of the desperation then you don’t block it anymore.
When you don’t block it anymore you start to imagine that you’ve got the thing that you want because everything feels so much easier.
In the past I had thought that letting go had manifested my desires, and looking back I realised that it wasn’t the letting go of my desires that got me what I wanted because truthfully I never really stopped wanting the things that I desired.
It was simply that I stopped trying to physically force things to change.
I stopped trying to be moaning, complaining and desperate and trying to persuade and encourage other people to give me what I wanted.
I just let go of all of that and started to enjoy my life, which on paper looks like I’ve given up on getting my desires.
But really I have just embraced life to become happier and through that process of becoming happier I’m able to activate my imagination.
I’m able to daydream and enjoy daydreaming and enjoy experiencing having what I want in my imagination.
Because I’m just in a better frame of mind generally,
I’m not in a negative frame of mind.
It’s very difficult to activate the imagination when you are in a negative desperate frame of mind. It just doesn’t happen.
You don’t find yourself daydreaming about positive things when you’re in a bad mood.
So that’s what happens when you let go. You’re just letting go of desperation.
You are just unblocking your ability to use your imagination, and that’s what actually activates. And that’s what I did to manifest my move to another country to a warmer climate.
For five years I was so desperate to do it, and then I let go and then I enjoyed my life and then my manifestation came.
Not because of my letting go.
Just because I was able to sit down and think about what I actually wanted.
I was able to write down what I wanted from my perfect day and when I did this then I was able to imagine that I had what I wanted and this is what manifested very shortly after.
